Always a Family Home

My home is a family home. To the untrained eye, it may fall undetected. Disguised as a house rather than a home. You walk in and see a revolving door— a father with two children, now no longer children. One moved on, in a home of his own. One still there, with a foot out the door. The once quick taps of four paws on the floor now slowed. The loss of a mother, unseen but felt.

Every heartbreak I’ve ever had happened the same. I say “every” like there’ve been a lot, but really, there’ve only ever been two. Both of them ending exactly the same—and not the normal, sitting-in-your-bed-crying-into-a-bowl-of-ice-cream-watching-Bridget-Jones’-Diary-until-you-suddenly-have-an-epiphany-and-remember-who-you-are kind of way.
